TikTok Shop Shipping Labels: Print, Size, Cost and Returns

Delzonic

Short answer: Shipping labels are generated inside Seller Center once an order is confirmed, printed at 4×6 inches on a thermal printer or A4 with a label sheet, and the cost is deducted from your payout rather than charged upfront. The mistake that costs sellers most is cancelling or reprinting labels carelessly, because a voided label with tracking already uploaded counts against your dispatch performance.

How to print a TikTok Shop shipping label

  1. Open Orders in Seller Center and filter to To ship.
  2. Select the orders you are shipping. Batch them rather than doing one at a time.
  3. Choose Arrange shipment, confirm the package weight and dimensions, and select the carrier option.
  4. Download the label PDF and print it.
  5. Attach it, hand over to the carrier, and confirm dispatch in Seller Center.

Confirming dispatch matters as much as printing. A parcel physically handed over but not marked shipped still counts as late.

What size is a TikTok Shop shipping label?

Format Size Best for
Thermal label 4 x 6 inches (100 x 150 mm) Any seller past a few orders a day
A4 sheet, 2 per page Standard A4 Low volume, no thermal printer
Return label Same 4 x 6 Included or generated on request

4×6 is the standard across the industry, which means a thermal printer bought for TikTok Shop also works for every other channel you add later.

Do you need a thermal printer?

Not at first, but the maths turns quickly. Printing on A4 with adhesive sheets costs roughly 10 to 20 cents per label once you count ink and paper. A thermal printer uses no ink at all and label rolls run around 2 to 4 cents each.

At 10 orders a day that difference is roughly $30 to $50 a month, so a printer in the $120 to $200 range pays for itself in a few months. Below about 5 orders a day, A4 is genuinely fine and buying hardware is premature.

The stronger argument for thermal is not cost, it is time. Peeling and sticking A4 labels is slow, and slow packing is what makes sellers miss dispatch cutoffs during a spike.

Thermal labels fade, and that is a feature

Direct thermal labels have no ink, so they darken with heat and fade over months. That is fine for parcels in transit and a problem for anything stored long term. Do not use them for inventory labelling you need to read next year.

What does a TikTok Shop shipping label cost?

The label itself is free to generate. What you pay is the carrier rate, and on platform-arranged shipping that is deducted from your settlement rather than billed separately, which is why sellers often do not notice it until they reconcile a payout.

Two consequences worth planning for. Your payout is smaller than your revenue minus fees, because shipping came out too. And a package heavier or larger than what you declared can trigger a carrier adjustment charged back to you later, so declare honestly rather than optimistically. Our payout guide covers what lands in the account.

Cancelling and reprinting labels

This is where sellers do real damage without realising.

  • Reprinting the same label is harmless. Same tracking, no record changes.
  • Cancelling a label voids the tracking. If you already marked the order shipped, you now have an order with dead tracking, which reads as a fulfilment failure.
  • Generating a second label for the same order without voiding the first can produce duplicate tracking and a mismatch that customer service cannot resolve quickly.

The rule: void before you re-create, and never confirm dispatch until the parcel is physically going.

Return labels

Return labels are generated when a return is approved and are typically the same 4×6 format. Two things to get right:

Decide in advance who pays. Buyer-fault returns and seller-fault returns are treated differently, and absorbing return shipping on buyer-fault returns is a choice, not a requirement. Second, inspect on receipt. Uninspected returns going straight back into sellable stock is how one refund becomes two, and the second one damages your Shop Performance Score as well as your margin.

Pro tip

Print labels in batches at a fixed time each day rather than as orders arrive. It halves the handling time per parcel and, more importantly, it means you notice a missing order before the dispatch cutoff instead of after it.

Labels and your delivery score

Since On-Time Delivery Rate replaced Late Dispatch Rate, the carrier’s performance is now on your scorecard, not just your packing speed. That changes label decisions: the cheapest carrier option is not the best one if its delivery reliability is materially worse, because the saving is smaller than the score damage.

If you are moving past self-fulfilment entirely, our 3PL and fulfilment guide covers when that switch pays.

Frequently asked questions

What size are TikTok Shop shipping labels?

4 x 6 inches (100 x 150 mm) is standard for thermal printing. A4 sheets with two labels per page work for low volume.

Can I use my own shipping label?

Only where TikTok Shop supports self-arranged shipping in your market. Where it does, you must upload valid tracking, and placeholder tracking is a serious violation.

How much does a TikTok Shop shipping label cost?

Generating it is free. The carrier rate is deducted from your settlement, so it reduces your payout rather than arriving as a bill.

Can I cancel a shipping label?

Yes, but void it before creating a replacement, and never after confirming dispatch. A voided label on a dispatched order leaves dead tracking that counts against you.

Do I need a thermal printer for TikTok Shop?

Not below roughly 5 orders a day. Past 10 a day the cost and time savings usually justify it within a few months.

The bottom line

Labels are a small operational detail that quietly feeds a scored metric. Batch your printing, declare weights honestly, void before you reprint, and pick carriers on reliability rather than price alone.
