TikTok Shop AI Content Rules (2026)
Short answer: AI voices have been banned from TikTok Shop promotional livestreams since 23 May 2026, and the ban covers more than voices. Recorded narration, radio style audio tracks, slideshows, looping footage, screen recordings and screenshots of product detail pages are all prohibited in LIVE. Outside LIVE the rules are far looser: AI assisted editing, translation, dubbing, scripts and virtual demos remain allowed, but anything entirely AI generated or significantly AI altered has to be disclosed, and the label appears publicly on your content. Violations now feed your Account Health Rating on a rolling 180 day window, so a mistake here does not clear itself the way it used to.
What is banned in LIVE
The livestream rules are the strict ones, because TikTok treats a shopping LIVE as a person selling to you in real time. Anything that fakes that presence is out.
| Format | Allowed in a promotional LIVE? |
|---|---|
| AI generated voices | No |
| Pre-recorded audio played as narration | No |
| Radio style audio tracks | No |
| Slideshows | No |
| Looping footage | No |
| Screen recordings | No |
| Screenshots of product detail pages | No |
Read that list again, because it is wider than the headline
Most coverage reported this as an AI voice ban. In practice it outlaws the entire unattended livestream format. A stream that loops product footage under a recorded voiceover was never really AI, and it is banned anyway. If your LIVE strategy was “run it overnight without a person”, that strategy is finished regardless of whether you used AI to build it.
What still works outside LIVE
Short form video and product imagery keep a lot of latitude. Still permitted: AI assisted editing, translation, dubbing, script writing and virtual demonstrations.
The boundary is fabrication. You can use AI to make your content clearer, faster to produce or available in another language. You cannot use it to show a result the product does not actually deliver. A translated voiceover of a genuine demo is fine. An AI generated before and after that never happened is not, and that is a misleading claims problem on top of an AI problem.
What has to be disclosed
Disclosure is required when content is entirely AI generated, or significantly edited with AI. TikTok names several categories explicitly.
| Content type | Disclosure needed |
|---|---|
| Synthetic faces | Yes |
| Voice clones | Yes |
| AI generated backgrounds | Yes |
| Photorealistic product images | Yes |
| Altering what someone says or does | Yes |
| Significantly changing someone’s appearance | Yes |
| Colour grading, trimming, captions | No |
Once you enable the toggle, a label reading “Disclosed by creator as AI-generated” appears in the bottom left corner of the content. It is visible to buyers, which is the part sellers hesitate over and should not.
The photorealistic product images line is the one that catches ecommerce sellers specifically. AI generated lifestyle shots of a real product are extremely common and they are squarely inside the disclosure requirement.
Pro tip
Disclose rather than gamble. The label costs you very little in conversion, because buyers are mostly looking at the product. An undisclosed synthetic image that gets detected costs you Account Health Rating points that now sit on your record for 180 days. The asymmetry is not close.
How is this actually enforced?
This is the part that changed the risk calculation. Enforcement has moved from a self declared toggle to automated detection, using C2PA provenance metadata, invisible watermarking, and computer vision classifiers.
Practically, that means the metadata embedded by the AI tool you used can identify the content as synthetic even if you never ticked the box, and even if you cropped, re-encoded or re-uploaded it. Assuming nobody can tell is no longer a reasonable assumption.
What happens if you get it wrong
Violations feed into the Account Health Rating, which replaced the old violation points system in July 2026. Your account starts at 200 and restrictions escalate at 150, 100, 50 and 0, on a rolling 180 day window that compounds rather than resetting.
The old system forgave you every 90 days. This one does not, so an AI disclosure slip in March is still on your record in August. Full detail in our guide to violations and ban triggers.
What to change this week
Audit your LIVE setup first. If any part of your streaming runs without a live human speaking, it is non compliant now. This is the highest risk item because LIVE is monitored closely.
Go through your product imagery. Any photorealistic AI generated image of a product needs the disclosure. Most sellers have more of these than they remember.
Check your translated and dubbed content. Still allowed, but if the AI altered what the speaker appears to say rather than simply translating it, that crosses into disclosure territory.
Write the rule down for whoever makes your content. If you use freelancers or an agency, they are generating AI assets on your account’s risk. They will not be the ones losing Shop Tab recommendations.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use an AI voice on TikTok Shop?
Not in a promotional livestream. Off LIVE, AI dubbing and voice work is permitted but a cloned voice requires disclosure.
When did the AI voice ban start?
23 May 2026 for promotional livestreams.
Do I have to label AI product photos?
Yes, if they are photorealistic and AI generated. Ordinary editing like colour correction or cropping does not require a label.
Does the AI label hurt conversion?
Far less than an enforcement action. Buyers are evaluating the product; the platform is evaluating your compliance record for 180 days.
Can TikTok actually detect AI content?
It reads C2PA metadata, invisible watermarks and runs computer vision classifiers. Detection is automated rather than reliant on you declaring it.
Are slideshows banned everywhere?
They are prohibited as a promotional LIVE format. Short form video rules are separate and more permissive.
While you are reviewing listings
Compliance problems and product problems often arrive together, because items with recurring quality complaints generate the disputes that pull your score down from the other direction.
